In the light of the rising number of infections, as well as the Minister of Basic Education's press release of 19 May indicating that all contact sport must be suspended immediately, the school has decided to suspend all sport and cultural activities (including practices) until Saturday, 29 May.

The situation will be constantly monitored and a decision regarding the resumption of the school's activities will be made accordingly.

For the time being, we would like to take the opportunity to focus on the positive things around us, as suggested in the quote above. We wish you a pleasant week.

COVID-19 INFECTIONS

If any member of your household has a COVID-19 test done, your children must please be kept at home until the test result is known. As prescribed, if a family member tests positive, we request that parents isolate the rest of the school-going family.

If children experience any cold or flu symptoms, we once again request that parents keep them home until they are well.

VIRTUAL SCHOOL

If your child needs to isolate and/or is unwell, you are welcome to contact the school. You will receive a link to join the “MCP Virtual School Support” WhatsApp group. Learners then follow the classes via the Timetable tab, available on the Student Portal.

Arrangements relating to Virtual School
Learners gain access to the virtual classroom via the Student Portal. When you click on the Timetable tab, you will see a camera which will give you access to a specific teacher’s virtual classroom. Please ensure that the learner has access to Zoom.

When the period starts, we request that virtual learners wait patiently until the staff member has sanitised and settled learners in the class. It can take up to 8 minutes for a staff member to “admit” a learner.

Although everything is done to prevent technical problems, staff can experience a crisis. In the event of a crisis, we request that learners wait in the “waiting room” and once the technical problem has been resolved, the learner will again be “admitted” and gain access to the virtual class. If learners miss part of the lesson as a result of technical difficulties, the relevant staff will contact you and make alternative arrangements.

Writing Virtual Tests
Learners who need to isolate and who are also absent for long periods, may complete the test via a Zoom supervised session. Please contact the school as soon as you isolate. Mrs Marita Havenga will contact you and explain the process to you.

Learners who are only ill for a short period and/or miss the Tuesday test period, can write the test on the following Monday in Mrs Diana Struwig’s classroom, during the Assembly period as was done in the past.
