FROM THE OFFICE

With happy hearts, we look forward to the return of more and more sporting and cultural events. The cultural groups are rehearsing with immense dedication. It certainly was heart-warming to experience the netball girls’ enthusiasm and excitement during the first netball matches on Tuesday. The tennis players are already busy with tournaments, the equestrian team will be competing in Qualifier 2 on 8 and 9 May at Kyalami Equestrian Park and rugby matches will also be back in full swing next week. Good luck to all the boys and girls for the new season. We realise that it is not easy for a parent not to be able to attend these activities. The matter is truly out of our hands, due to the directive received that, at this stage, no spectators may be allowed to attend any activities.

We would like to congratulate all the superb Grade 7 learners for their dedication and hard work, both in the classroom and out of the classroom. We appreciate and value every Grade 7 child. On Monday, we announced a group of children as leaders who will take on more duties. Congratulations to these children! I encourage all the Grade 7s to keep up their teamwork and to continue with the dedication they have shown thus far.

I would like to share the following quotation with you: “I love that this morning’s sunrise does not define itself by last night’s sunset.” – Steve Maraboli

Once again, we would like to make a friendly request that should your child experience any cold or flu symptoms, they must please stay at home until they are completely healthy. In the event that you, as a parent, have had contact with somebody who has tested positive for COVID-19 and you must, as a result, go for a COVID-19 test, you must please keep your children at home until the results are known.

SCHOOL TIMES

School times will be as follows as from Monday, 10 May:
• Grade 1 and 2 learners from 07:45 to 13:15
• Grade 3 learners from 07:45 to 13:30
• Grade 4 to 7 learners from 07:45 to 13:40.

CLOTHES TO GOOD… AND TREES

We are super excited about this term’s outreach project! Together with the high school, we will be participating in the International Clothes to Good Drive. An astonishing 85% of textiles end up in landfills each year and 500 000 tons of microfibres are released into the ocean when we wash our clothes. It is time for us to recycle! This project will afford you the PERFECT opportunity to make sure your clothes are reused.

HOW DOES THIS PROJECT WORK?
1. Each child will receive a green plastic garbage bag.
2. Fill the bag with old, clean clothes, shoes or any textiles.
3. Return the bag to school.

The clothes will be sorted and reused in many ways. Clothing still suitable for wearing, will be used to provide work opportunities for 108 microbusinesses. Clothing that is not suitable any longer, will be used to create new things. E.g. bags, dolls and educational toys. Nothing will be thrown away; every bit will be used again.

Clothes to Good will donate spekboom plants to our school, as a thank you and therefore the project will be known as a Clothes to Trees Project.

Please watch the video or visit the website for more information.

The children will receive their green bags on Monday. Let’s take some time this weekend to sort out those cupboards and get those old clothes ready to be sent out on new adventures on Monday!
