Important dates

Welcome to Midstream College Primary in 2020. The holiday and family time was amazing and now we are ready to experience new adventures, set new goals and create new memories. We wish you lots of joy and happiness for the year. May 2020 be all that you hope it will be.

Our theme for the year is: Growth. At Midstream College we plant smiles, grow laughter, harvest love. We are looking forward to seeing our young “plants” becoming strong independent “trees”.

“Our growth, like plants and humans, depends on how we work to enrich others”. – Okegwu Earle Miracle

We would like to welcome Ms Charlene Myburgh (grade 1), Mrs Henriette Louw (Librarian), as well as Yvonne Malan, a registered nurse, who has taken over from Natascha Kollmann as the first aider at our school. If you need to send an email indicating that your child will be collected from school by someone else, you can send the email to .

All the best to Rynard van der Laan, Malan van den Berg, Pierre de la Port and Rikus Cilliers, who will be participating in the final round of the BNP Paribas Rising Star Tennis Championships from 30 January to 2 February at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Centre in Soweto. These 4 players have already achieved a remarkable achievement by participating in the final round against the strongest teams in the country. We are proud of them and wish them well!

The athletics meeting will take place from 12:00. Although Grade 2 and 3 learners have permission to leave after 13:45, we request that the Grade 4 to 7 learners stay until the end, as the spirit trophy will only be awarded at the end of the meeting.

DRESS: Learners come to school dressed in their house shirts with their PE skirt / pants or PE golf shirt. Please remember your sunblock and hat.

The Senior Revue auditions take place on Tuesday 21 January and Thursday 23 January for Grade 4 to 7 learners.

ALL learners wanting to attend the auditions must book a timeslot for their audition. Timeslots need to be booked by filling in their name on the booking form outside Mrs S. Brown’s classroom (block 2, room 36).

Bookings must be made by 14:00 on Monday 20 January.

Your child will need to learn a dance before attending the audition. Please follow the link below to see the dance tutorial. This will be the dance they will have to be able to do at the audition.

As in the past, the Science textbooks (Science Dissected) are ordered directly from the publishers by the school in order to eliminate the middle man and keep the costs lower. It is the school’s own textbook and can unfortunately not be purchased from another publisher. For this reason, you were not able to order this textbook from MC Primary Bookshop. An amount of R220-00 for a Grade 4 to 7 science textbook will be debited to your February 2020 statement.

Most of our learners’ eyes are sparkling in appreciation of their beautiful new pens, pencils and other stationery in their pencil cases. Moms may, however, be feeling somewhat discouraged about the drawers at home filled with last year’s stationery.

If old pencils, crayons, pens or any other stationery is taking up space in your home, you are welcome to send them to Ms Carina de Villiers’ class. We donate all this stationery to schools that need it and can still make use of and enjoy these items!

Lockers are available in 2020 for all Grade 4 to 7 learners that apply for a locker. Once all the lockers have been allocated to the Grade 4 to 7 learners, Grade 3 learners will then also be given the opportunity to reserve a locker. The application for lockers will close on Friday 24th January 2020. Lockers will then be allocated on Monday 27 January 2020 to the respective learners. Learners can reserve their lockers for 2020 by applying for a locker using the following links:

The Technology Department has decided to make 2020 easier for parents by putting together a pack for Grade 4 learners, which will include the following:

• Textbook (Technology Dissected)
• An A4 box containing requirements for various projects for the year.
• The box will be sent home at the end of each term so that the requirements for the next term can be
packed, and must then be sent back to school at the start of the new term. In this way, the logistics
surrounding the products that need to be purchased when tasks/projects are done, will be simplified.
• The following will not be included in the box: glue, glue guns and the ingredients for food technology
(Term 4). More information will be provided at a later stage by your child’s Technology teacher regarding
glue, glue guns and the ingredients for food technology.

The cost per package will amount to R145-00 per learner and will be debited to your account at the end of January 2020.
