FROM THE OFFICE

It is with great pride that we congratulate our athletes on their exceptional achievements at the Top 10 Athletics Meeting on Saturday. We achieved 2nd place overall out of 28 schools competing at this meeting. Janelle Kirkpatrick and Kwena Mojapelo were also named the best track athletes for the senior girls and boys respectively.

Congratulations to our Midstream College Monitors for 2023. On Tuesday evening we acknowledged our potential leaders and now they have the opportunity to unlock their leadership, take initiative and formally begin their growth as Grade 7 leaders at Midstream College. On Tuesday evening I shared the following quote from Maya Angelou with our Monitors: “I learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

This week we pray for … the Grade 7s of our school. We pray for God-given friendships that are uplifting, for self-confidence and that they will realise that God has made each of them unique and wonderful, we pray for bravery to stand up for themselves and for others, we pray for success and growth in everything they do and that they will have a truly blessed and happy last year in primary school.

CHOC FLIP FLOP DAY

This year we would like to continue building on the Valentine’s Day tradition started at the school.

As a primary school, we believe that Valentine’s Day is celebrated appropriately by the children at their age level. Our children are not yet emotionally ready to understand and experience Valentine's Day for what it really is. We want to protect our children from unnecessary hurt and feelings of rejection. We would much rather teach them about real caring, for example, caring for people who need support, acceptance, and help.

When they cherish, help and support others, this also creates a feeling of joy and fulfilment.

So, this year we are again going to do something special on Valentine’s Day that is focused on the idea that love for our fellow man is not only a commandment from God, but also wonderful and fun!

Please do not spend your money on bears, plastic roses, chocolates, and other gifts! Rather save this sort of celebration for when your child is in high school. With this in mind, we are going to support the CHOC Foundation’s Flip Flop Day with blue bows in our hair and comfortable flip flops on our feet!

Children and teenagers who are fighting the battle against cancer are the bravest of the brave. They are facing the most frightening journey of their lives… But these young warriors are not alone in their war against cancer because they are experiencing love. They are so loved that CHOC builds an army to walk along and fight all the way with them.

We are going to be part of this support group and show our love to children fighting cancer. The CHOC Flip Flop Day stickers, which will free your 10 toes from school shoes on Friday, 17 February, will be sold at R10 at Tuck In. Buy your cute flip flop biscuits too. Sticker sales will only take place during the week of 13 ‒ 17 February. Payments must please be made in cash.

Come and buy a sticker before Flip Flop Day and enjoy 17 February in a comfortable way that gives everyone the chance to make a difference in a wonderful way!

PLEASE NOTE: No socks, CROCS, etc. Only flip flops without socks and normal school uniform will be allowed.

AFRIKAANS EXTRA CLASSES

Kindly refer to the school calendar for the start and end dates of each term’s Afrikaans extra lessons. Lessons are held from 13:50 ‒ 14:30.

These lessons are aimed at learners who need revision of work covered in class reinforcement.

FOOD BAG PROJECT
MIDSTREAM CARES – BE INVOLVED!

Each year, Midstream College Primary School reaches out to families in need by providing basic non-perishable food and other household items. Together with KSM, we want to distribute food optimally and effectively to families in need. Food bags are filled by Midstream families every month and delivered to the school, whereafter they are handed over to KSM for distribution. Alternatively, you can choose to sponsor bags during the year by paying the amount per bag directly into the church’s account each month. This is an easy way to get involved in charity work and involve your children in a caring project.
