FROM THE OFFICE

As we near the end of a very busy term, we wish each learner and parent a blessed holiday and if you’re travelling – travel safely, rest well and return with renewed energy.

We wish Mr Mark Bailey, who will be leaving us, well and thank him for his positive contribution in the classroom as well as on the sports field. Our best wishes accompany him on his new journey.

We welcome Mr Marthinus Muller who will be joining our Mathematics Department in the new term. The addition of Mr Muller has brought about a number of other changes within the Intersen Phase. Mr Esterhuizen will be taking Mr Bailey’s classes until the end of the year and Mr Rico Ferreira has agreed to take Mr Esterhuizen’s classes (Science and PE) until the end of the year. The learners’ register classes and timetables, however, remain unchanged.

All the best to the teachers and learners who will be away on tours during the holidays and who are also attending tours at our school. We look forward to seeing all the new skills you will gain in action on the cricket field next term.

PARENTS’ AFTERNOON

There will be two parents’ afternoons this term. The parents’ afternoons will take place on Monday, 24 July and Wednesday, 26 July. As done in the past, parents’ appointments will take place in person in the various teachers’ classrooms or offices. Appointments must please be made on the Parent Portal. The Parent Portal will be open from Thursday, 20 July at 16:00 to Wednesday, 26 July at 12:00. No appointments can therefore be made later than 12:00 on Wednesday, 26 July.

Sign on to the Parent Portal with your “Parent ID” (code starting with the number 3) and password.
Click on the “Student tab”.
Click on the learner’s photo.
Click on the “Parent/Teacher Appointments”.
Select a teacher.
Click on a timeslot.

You will then receive an e-mail confirming your appointment.

FLAVOUR FESTIVAL – DATE CHANGE

The Flavour Festival and Masterclass of 21 July moves to 15 September due to an IEB conference at Midstream College Primary School.

Further communication with regards to the Flavour Festival and Masterclass will be communicated closer to the event.

23 JUNE

We are ending the term on a high with various activities planned. The learners will run/walk along a route of 800 m (Grade 1 – 3) or 1.6 km (Grade 4 – 7). There will also be other fun activities that the Grade 4 – 7 learners will participate in, for example, three-legged races, sack races, tug-of-war, etc. The grade 1 – 3 learners will participate in art activities in the classrooms for the rest of the day.

Dress code: L.O. clothing / School tracksuit
Remember to apply sunscreen and wear a hat.

ADMISSION FOR GRADE 8 FOR 2024

Due to the overwhelming number of applications for grade 8 for next year, the admission process will take place in phases. The admission is primarily based on academic performance. The first phase has been completed and a number of learners have now been informed accordingly. Factors such as whether you live within the Midstream Estates, already have children in the high school and whether your child was in one of our primary schools also play a role, but unfortunately nothing guarantees your child a place.

During phase two, learners' second term reports will be further considered and a number of learners will again be admitted at the start of the third term. Hence, please be patient. We would, however, strongly advise that learners who are in phase two, secure a plan B.
 
After admitted learners have accepted their places and paid their deposits, numbers will be finalised. As a result of cancellations and places that become available, a few more learners will be admitted at the start of the fourth term.

MIDSTREAM SCHOOLS’ CONCERT

Midstream College High School, Midstream College Primary School and Midstream Ridge Primary School will be hosting a joint concert on 9 August @ 18:30 in the State Theatre. During this showpiece event there will be approximately 800 learners from the three schools that will be participating in a variety of cultural activities.

The following groups will be participating from our Primary School: Junior Revue, Senior Revue, String Orchestra and Isicathulo (Gumboot dancing).

We encourage you to buy online tickets from Webtickets as soon as possible so as not to miss out on this prestigious event.

MANDELA DAY: YADAH – FOOD PACKING

International Mandela Day on 18 July celebrates the idea that every individual has the power to change the world and the ability to make an impact. So, in honour of his 67 years of public service, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the UN are asking that you spend 67 minutes of your time helping others.

Come and spend your 67 minutes with us packing food packages for less fortunate people! Everything is provided; you just have to give your time and willingness!

• All Grade 5 to Grade 7 learners.
• Younger learners are also welcome if a parent accompanies them.
• All teachers and parents who want to help.
