FROM THE OFFICE
Welcome back to school! We hope that you had a wonderful break and will be able to attend school with a fresh mind and vigour in your step. Best wishes for the new term. Here’s to learning, making friends, embracing all the new, exciting opportunities and enjoying the sport and cultural activities!
We warmly welcome Ms Abigail Lizzio to the English Department and Ms Simphiwe Zwane as assistant in the Foundation Phase. We wish them a long and happy stay at Midstream College.
We congratulate our athletes who excelled during the South African Athletics Championships these holidays. They definitely ended the athletics season on a high note and we are very proud of our stars.
The results are as follows:
Janelle Kirkpatrick (U12) 1st in 75 m Hurdles, 2nd in150 m Hurdles, 2nd in High Jump
Banie Claasen (U10) 1st in 1 200 m
Emil Els (U13) 2nd in 800 m
Evan van der Merwe (U12) 3rd in Javelin
Linmari Kirkpatrick (U10) 4th in 70 m Hurdles
Rupert Groenewald (U13) 5th in 1 500 m
Rikus Holtzhausen (U12) 7th in 150 m Hurdles, 8th in Long Jump
Marcel van der Leek (U10) 8th in 1 200 m
Abigail Roberts participated in the SA Schools Swimming Championships and did extremely well. Congratulations Abigail! She received golds in the 50m Butterfly, 4x100m Medley relay, 4x100m Freestyle relay as well as in the 4x50m Medley relay; silver in the 4x50m Freestyle relay, bronze in the 50m Freestyle and fourth place in the 50m and 200m Backstroke.
Rupert Groenewald represented Gauteng North at the South African National Biathlon Championships, held at Gqeberha, during the holidays. He competed in the U15 section and ended in 6th position out of 68 competitors, most of whom are older than him. Congratulations, Rupert!
Congratulations also goes to Beyers Pretorius who represented Gauteng North in their U13 Boys Tennis Team at the Interprovincial Tournament held in Bloemfontein during the holidays. He won 5 of his 6 singles matches and Gauteng North finished 5th out of 14 very strong teams – what an excellent achievement!

PARENT AFTERNOON
The Parent Afternoon will take place on Wednesday, 13 April. We are pleased to inform you that these meetings will take place in person, as done in the past, in the respective teachers’ classrooms or offices. Appointments must please be made on the Parent Portal. No e-mails will be accepted. The Parent Portal will be open from 7 April at 14:00 until 13 April at 12:00. Therefore, no appointments can be made later than 12:00 on Wednesday, 13 April.
Sign on to the Parent Portal using your “Parent ID” (code starting with the value 3) and password.
Click on the “Student tab”.
Click on the learner’s photo.
Click on the “Parent/Teacher Appointments”.
Select a teacher.
Click on a timeslot.
You will then receive an e-mail confirming your appointment.

CHARACTER DAY
Celebrate World Book Day with us! Dress as your favourite storybook character on Friday, 22 April. Think outside the box and use accessories you have at home. We are really looking forward to meeting all the characters in the Midstream College Primary School storybook!
Please note: According to the diary, Character Day is scheduled for Friday, 24 June. We are changing the date to celebrate Character Day on World Book Day (Saturday, 23 April).

CHORAL VERSE
Welcome one and all!
Everyone from Grade 1 – Grade 7 is welcome to join Choral Verse. Junior Choral Verse accommodates learners from Grade 1 – 3, while Senior Choral Verse is for any Grade 4 – 7 learners to participate in! There are no auditions and absolutely everyone is welcome to join us! (This includes learners from the English and Afrikaans streams.) We learn a poem and then present it as a group in front of an audience.
Choral Verse exercises our memory, gives children a space in which to meet new friends and builds confidence.
Choral Verse will begin on Wednesday, 13 April.
Grade 1 – 3: 15:30 – 16:00 (To meet at Mrs Terri Janse van Rensburg’s classroom)
Grade 4 – 7: 15:00 – 15:30 (To meet outside the school hall)

TENNIS
Tennis practices started as usual from Wednesday, 6 April.

CROSS-COUNTRY 2022
Cross country practice started this week. Practice will be on Mondays to Thursdays, 14:00 to 15:00. Have a look at the website for information. There is also a Cross Country WhatsApp group where we will regularly share important information. Follow the link to join the group:

2022 CULTURAL FESTIVAL INFORMATION
Entries for the Cultural Festival will be extended to Thursday, 14 April 2022.
This year the theme for our Cultural Festival is “Unlock”. Many of the sections require this theme to be depicted, so please ensure that you are aware of the requirements for each section.
Mass participation is a priority and we encourage each learner to participate in at least one item.
Entry fees will only be paid for: Crafts, Flavour Festival, Flavour Festival – Masterclass, the Dad and Son Function and Leading Ladies.
All learners from our school may participate in and attend the festival as spectators during the afternoon. However, no learners from other schools are allowed to participate in our Cultural Festival.
HOW TO ENTER:
The Parent Portal must be used to enter.
Please follow the link below to the Parent Portal and click on the Students’ tab.
Click on the learner’s photo and select the “Cultural Festival Entries” tab.
For more information about an item, click on the particular activity.
Indicate your selection by clicking on the square.
Once you have made all your selections, click on the “Sign Up” button at the top right of the screen.
The items/activities will appear at the bottom of the screen and you have enrolled/entered successfully.
NEW CATEGORY: Our Dad and Son Function is exclusively for Grade 6 and 7 boys and their dads. Come and enjoy an inspiring evening as father and son. A motivational speaker will be giving some tips to the sons about how to be a man in today's world. Light eats will be provided.

GRADE 1 APPLICATIONS FOR 2023
Parents are requested to please submit Grade 1 applications for 2023 before the end of April 2022. Please note that the school has switched to an online application system. No hard copy or email applications, please.

GRADE 8 ADMISSIONS 2023
Grade 8 admissions for 2023 will be open until Friday, 29 April 2022. If you would like your child to attend Midstream College, kindly note that you have to complete the application form online.
